Avelino Mendes
Director

Avelino Mendes has been a member of the Board of Directors at Westport Federal Credit Union for twenty five years. During that time, he has served on the Supervisory Committee, Credit Committee, ALM Committee, Chairman of the Board, CEO Committee, Budget Committee, and the Marketing Committee.

Al is a graduate of Durfee High School and attended Boston University. He has coached little league baseball and was also on the Diman Regional Vocational School Advisory Board. He was a St. Anne’s volunteer and participated in prison ministry at the Bristol County Jail.

He has been married to his wife Dotty for 63 years, and has 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. When Al isn’t serving on the board or spending time with his family he enjoys reading and working in his yard.

Al has many certificates and achievements including at the Members United Federal Credit Union, Empire Corporate FCU, The Paragon Group, EasCorp, along with other computer based courses for Credit Unions.

Al states

“As a board member, we come to the meetings with ideas to increase business by dealing in investments, marketing or special loans. The board as a whole makes sure they remember who we are responsible to, which is the member, and keeping their best interest in mind when making these decisions.”
