Important Scam Information
Credit unions are seeing an increase in sophisticated scams targeting members nationwide. Fraudsters are impersonating financial institutions by spoofing phone numbers and using real or fabricated employee names to request personal information. In some cases, they may “verify” publicly available details, such as a date of birth, to appear legitimate and gain your trust.
We have received reports from members as well as non-members who were contacted by individuals claiming to be WFCU employees using our phone number. These callers referenced employee names that do not belong to WFCU staff and attempted to obtain personal information by alleging account fraud, pending transactions, or payments on hold. This is not just happening here, but at financial institutions nationwide.
WFCU will never ask for your password, one-time passcodes, or pressure you to transfer funds. If you receive a call of this nature, do not provide any information. Hang up immediately and call us at (508) 679-0197. You will be connected with a legitimate WFCU employee.
