Westport Federal Credit Union Holds Sixth Annual Scholarship Ceremony

Westport, MA – July 6, 2010 – Westport Federal Credit Union held their sixth annual scholarship ceremony on Thursday, July 1, 2010.  This year the Credit Union presented 10 students, in both high school and college, with either the Westport Federal Credit Union Scholarship or the Westport Federal Credit Union – Alfred Lewis Scholarship.  The latter is in memory of the late Alfred Lewis, a member of the Board of Directors at WFCU.

This year the Credit Union awarded five local high school seniors each with Alfred Lewis Memorial scholarships.  Chelsea Rosa, Westport High School, will be joining the freshman class of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth majoring in Education and Psychology. Nicholas Friar, Westport High School, will be attending Northwestern University to study Journalism. Kayla Newcome, Westport High School, plans to attend Bristol Community College to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Andrew Correia, Somerset High School, plans to pursue a bachelor degree in Biology this fall. Finally, Trisha Therrien, Westport High School, will be attending the Bristol Community College to study Computer Forensics.

WFCU also awarded the following five students, currently enrolled in post secondary institutions, with Westport Federal Credit Union scholarship. Alisha Pavao, a Dartmouth High graduate, currently attends the University of Rhode Island and is studying Pharmacy. Patrick Lambert, a Portsmouth High graduate, is currently enrolled at Emerson College studying Communications and Broadcast. Laura Massa, who was homeschooled, attends the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and is studying to be an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Patrick Ford, a Bishop Stang graduate, attends Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is studying Civil/Environmental Engineering. Lastly, Samuel Texeira, a Westport High graduate, is pursuing Criminal Justice at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Westport Federal Credit Union congratulates the scholarship recipients and wishes them continued success in all their future endeavors.
